Restoration

Restoration of the Panorama of Murten, 1996 – 2002 (3)

During a second work phase, the individual sections were suspended vertically on a special circular framework (15 m in radius, 12 m high and 35 m long), fastened to a wooden purlin crown along the bottom edge, and tensioned with additional weights. After the sections were patched and retouched with conventional colouring crayons, they were rolled up again. To repair the defects caused to the third roll by rodents, a piece of the original canvas was removed and re-inserted in the area of the faux terrain, i.e. the three-dimensional foreground scenery.

The first third was suspended on 1 May 2001 and rolled up again at the end of August; the last, in early November and rolled up again before Christmas.
