The panorama is a work of international importance. It is one of four historical panoramas in Switzerland and one of fifteen panoramas worldwide that were created before 1900.
The panorama of the Battle of Murten is a Swiss national treasure (Federal Office of Culture, 1996). It is also of international value, as it is one of the 15 surviving panoramas from the 19th century and the only surviving panorama by the painter Louis Braun. The quality of the painting and its excellent state of preservation contribute to its importance. According to the records of the Swiss Society for Panoramas, the original cost of the painting in 1894 was 173,500 Swiss francs.
Also worth mentioning is the Alpineum in Luzern with its panoramic view of the Gornergrat and Matterhorn (Lucerne, 1895-1900).
